Asia Racing Team is delighted to announce that Chinese driver Yu Zhang will be joining the team for the opening round of the Formula 4 South East Asia series, taking place at the Zhuzhou International Circuit next weekend.
Yu Zhang, who previously drove for sister team BlackJack Racing in the Ningbo round of the Chinese Formula 4 Championship, will have the exciting opportunity to race the Tatuus F4 T421 GEN2 car.
Yu Zhang, who hails from China, brings a unique background to the world of motorsport. Notably, he was a national level rower who once represented the national team and clinched national championship titles. However, at the age of 19, he decided to make a transition into the world of formula racing. After just a few days of training, he made his debut in this year’s Chinese formula competition, showcasing his remarkable adaptability and commitment.
“I’m very happy to cooperate with ART to participate in an Asian single seater series this time. I hope that my team and I can work together to achieve the highest possible classification,” said Yu Zhang, reflecting his enthusiasm and determination for this new challenge.
Team Manager Rodolfo Avila expressed his excitement about Yu Zhang’s return to the team, saying, “It is great to have ‘Moki’ back in the team. He did a good job last time out in China F4 at Ningbo. Of course, he will be learning every time out at the track, but this is part of the process in the same way we learn about the car and its setup.”
The 2023 Formula 4 South East Asia season is set to kick off this weekend at the Zhuzhou International Circuit. The event will comprise pre-event testing, free practice sessions, two qualifying sessions, and three thrilling 25-minute races. Racing enthusiasts and fans can look forward to an action-packed weekend of motorsport, scheduled for October 27-29.
