Max Sun Racing by ART (铭宣???车队)’s SEAT Leon TCR SEQ driven by Li Sicheng, Su Jiannan, Jiang Yufu and Yang Yang had a horrid “Circuit Hero 700km” endurance race last weekend at the Zhuhai International Circuit.
Following a promising top-6 finish in the Free Practice session, the 30-minute Saturday’s Qualifying session didn’t go quite as the team hoped. On the first run with new tires, the #56 SEAT Leon TCR spun at the T4 and ended in the gravel trap and was unable to return to the track. Despite being on the back foot, the China Mainland quartet still manage to qualify in P7 for Sunday’s 163 laps race.
Unfortunately Max Sun Racing By ART’s race was short lived. With Li Sicheng at the wheel, the SEAT Leon TCR had an high-speed accident on the second lap, hitting the tire wall heavily in turn 11. The Chinese driver has been released from the hospital after a precautionary overnight stay following the wall-banging crash.
Rodolfo Avila, Team Manager of Asia Racing Team, said: “the weekend didn’t turn out as we planned. The team will investigate further the reasons of the accident. We had a strong group of people, and I am convinced that an overall top-5 and a TCR category podium finish were perfectly achievable and realistic. We hope to return next year and try again”.
