Albert Jiang Fukang secured a win in the fourth round of the F4 Chinese Championship at the 5.451 km Shanghai International Circuit last weekend.
The Pingtan Raxing by Blackjack driver and championship contender had qualified P6 the previous day. However, his morning race was compromised when an opponent hit him during a Safety Car period while he was battling for a podium. Despite the setback, he finished P8, a result that didn’t reflect his true pace.
In the second race, starting from third on the grid, Albert Jiang wasted no time, taking the lead within two laps and managing the gap to the checkered flag. This victory keeps his title hopes alive as he prepares to start from P6 in tomorrow’s third race of the weekend. This marks Albert Jiang’s second win at the Shanghai F1 Circuit this season, having claimed victory in one of the two season-opener races back in April.
On Saturday, Allen Lu continued to make progress, finishing P9 in the CFGP class in the weekend’s opening race. The Pingtan Raxing by ART driver showed further improvement in the second race, finishing P16 overall.
In his first appearance in the F4 Chinese Championship this season, Fu Zhenjiang focused on adapting to the new Mygale F4 Gen 2 car. He claimed victory in the Gentleman Drivers Class in race one, but despite missing the podium in race two, he showed his best pace of the weekend, finishing just 1.6 seconds off a podium spot.
While day one was held in scorching heat, the second day of the weekend was rescheduled to an earlier start time due to the looming threat of an approaching severe typhoon.
In the Sunday morning race, Albert Jiang advanced two positions from his starting spot to finish 4th overall and 2nd in the CFGP class. Allen Lu improved his fastest lap time by 0.9 seconds but was hit from behind, finishing 17th overall, six places ahead of teammate Fu Zhenjiang, who finished 7th in the Master Class.
The strategy for the final race of the weekend was correct, but a significant error during the event prevented all our drivers from moving to the front. Albert Jiang finished 10th, Allen Lu was 15th, and Fu Zhenjiang was 19th.
“As the season approaches its penultimate round, we are seeing more mistakes from everyone involved in the sport—ourselves, our competitors, and others. We need to reflect on these issues to ensure we finish the season strong. Special thanks to our drivers who endured technical difficulties and continued to fight on with the team,” Jack Pang, Team Principal, said.
The F4 Chinese Championship final showdown is scheduled for October 18/20 at the Zhuhai International Circuit.
