Macau SAR driver Nicholas Lai has been confirmed as Asia Racing Team driver for the 2019 Asian Formula Renault Series Rounds 8, 9 and 10 at the Sepang International Circuit on September 27th to 29th.
The 32-year-old driver has competed in the China Formula 4 Championship and took part in several touring car local events but the Asian Formula Renault Series will be his first participation on the Asian stage.
“I’m really excited to be kicking off my Asian racing campaign with Asia Racing Team at the Formula 1 track of Sepang. This is one of the most iconic teams in Asian motorsport and I’m looking forward to learning from them” said Lai. “I am not having too much pressure but I’ll push to the limit, aiming the podium as always! I believe Asia Racing Team can deliver the infinity power to my true soul racing heart, igniting my fire again from the darkest fall of F4 Championship since last race in Ningbo. Should be challenging!”
Lai is no stranger to the team having driven Asia Racing Team cars at the Zhuhai International Circuit “Arrive & Drive” sessions. Delighted to complete a deal with Lai, Asia Racing Team crew is relishing working with the Imperial Casha proudly supported driver and is confident the Macau racer can become a serious challenger at the front in the Master class category.
Speaking on Lai’s welcome return to Asia Racing Team, Team Manager Rodolfo Avila said: “We’re delighted to see Nicholas return as an Asia Racing Team driver and very much looking forward to working with him again at Sepang. He made strong progress since we met him the first time in the ‘Arrive & Drive’ sessions at Zhuhai Circuit, and we’re sure he’ll continue to make big strides in the coming future”.
For the second triple-header of the Asian Formula Renault Series season, Lai will line up alongside in-form team regulars Bruno Carneiro from Brazil and Ni Weiliang from Singapore.
