Rising star Tiger Zhang Sum Hon is the latest addition to the F4 Chinese Championship line-up for the Apollo RFN Racing Team by Blackjack Racing.
The 15-year-old Chinese driver from Hong Kong began his motorsport journey at the age of four in the Children’s Motorcycle Championship in Shenzhen. Since 2017, he has progressed through various levels of karting, becoming a race winner in the China Karting Championship (CKC) and in the Asian Karting Open Championship (AKOC), and also competed in the Greater Bay Area Karting Championship, and the Lynk & Co Top Driver Karts Annual Finals.
In 2023, he was honoured with the prestigious Golden Wheel Karting GWA Award and in 2024 received the Awarded Excellent Driver of the Greater Bay Area by Guangdong Motorsports Association. This year marks his first season in formula racing.
The F4 Chinese Championship is contested with the latest-generation Mygale M21-F4 chassis and follows a demanding format spread across five rounds held throughout mainland China. Each race weekend comprises two qualifying sessions and four races, creating an intense and highly competitive platform for up-and-coming drivers to develop and showcase their talent in the region.
Commenting on the signing of Tiger Zhang, Team Manager Rodolfo Avila said: “We’re pleased to welcome Tiger to the team. It was a late signing, and we haven’t had much time to prepare for the season, but we had the chance to test with him in the Formula 4 car, and he’s already familiar with the Ningbo circuit. He’s aware that stepping up from karting to single-seaters comes with a steep learning curve, but we’re confident he’ll adapt quickly and show solid development as the season progresses.”
The F4 Chinese Championship season kicks off this weekend at the Ningbo SpeedPark International in Zhejiang Province with two races on Saturday and two races on Sunday.
