Asia Racing Team can confirm that former FIA Chinese Formula 4 champion Bruno Carneiro will join their Asian Formula Renault Series team for the upcoming 2019 season. The 19 year-old racer who has marked himself out as one to watch on the Asian racing scene has enjoyed an impressive career in both Formula 4 and Formula 3.
The Brazilian-American, who started racing go-karts at age 4, stepped up to single seaters in 2015, claiming the NASA Utah Open Championship title. He also partook in the last round of the inaugural FIA Chinese Formula 4 Championship, achieving a podium in the second race. In 2016, Carneiro moved to the series at full-time, taking eight victories and the Chinese Formula 4 series title.
He moved to Japan in the year after and finished 11th overall in the Japanese Formula 3 Championship. He would return in 2018 but he has just participated in a single event due to budget constraints.
Proudly supported by Rodizio Grill, Carneiro is back to single seater racing in 2019, after securing a last-minute deal with Asia Racing Team to drive a Tatuus Formula Renault 2.0/13 in the Asian Formula Renault Series.
“I’m excited to be joining such a prestigious team as Asia Racing Team,” said a delighted Carneiro. “I am truly thankful for the trust and support that the team have put in me, as a well as my title sponsor Rodizio Grill! I am looking forward to getting back on track and facing the challenge of a new championship and a new car, but I know that me and the team have a fighting chance at the championship.”
Speaking about the team’s newest signing, Rodolfo Avila said, “We have raced against Bruno in Chinese Formula 4 series, and we know what he can deliver. Asian Formula Renault will certainly be a new environment for Bruno but he has the ability and more importantly, the determination to overcome the challenge ahead. We look forward to watching him have a successful campaign with us this year.”
The Asian Formula Renault Series will be comprised of 12 races. The championship gets underway at the Zhuhai International Circuit over the weekend of 23rd-24th March, 2019.
