BlackJack Racing is participating in the opening round of the 2024 Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia season, which will be held from May 3rd to May 5th at the Sepang International Circuit. Peter Li Zhi Cong, the 2013 GT Asia Series Champion, will drive the #2 BlackJack Racing Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo Evo2 entry at this event on the prestigious Malaysian FIA Grade I circuit.
The Super Trofeo Asia has been a classic for Lamborghini sports customers since 2012. Over 254 drivers of 30 different nationalities have raced in the series, with an average number of participants growing at a steady pace. The series races are contended on iconic circuits such as Sepang and Fuji, but many Asian countries have hosted this championship, including China Formula One track of Shanghai.
Even though both the driver and team are making their first appearance in the Super Trofeo Asia, Li Zhi Cong is a well-known figure at BlackJack Racing’s sister team, Asia Racing Team, having raced for the team for the first time in 2010. After winning the 2013 GT Asia Series, Li Zhi Cong moved to Europe where he competed in the British F3 Championship and the FIA F3 European Championship. In 2017, Li Zhi Kong made his return to GT cars after a serious accident in the European Formula 3 series sidelined him for the remainder of the 2016 season. Since then, he has been participating in selected formula car races in China.
Commenting about his GT race return, Li Zhi Cong said: “I am thrilled about this incredible opportunity to get back in the driver’s seat and am looking forward to be racing again. Thanks to my sponsors and to the team for making this happen. This is a brand-new car for me, and I am committed to maximising its potential to the fullest. Together with the team, I hope we could get the best out of it.”
Jack Pang, Team Principal of BlackJack Racing, added: “We welcome our old friend Peter as we venture into a new race series for the team. I hope he will enjoy the challenge.”
The weekend officially kicks off with two Free Practice sessions on Friday, May 3rd. The two qualifying sessions will take place on Saturday morning, May 4th, and the first 50-minute race is scheduled for later in the day at 14:30 (local time). The second 50-minute race is planned for Sunday at 11:50.
